Expect it in early 2026

I have finished my translation of Lucino and it has been peer reviewed by Master Henry Fox with all his changes incorporated and is currently being peer reviewed by Master Gomez. Provost James Pond has been developing some art for me and I hope to get it typeset and available online in the new year.

Lucino and his love of Agrippa

Girolamo Lucino is an interesting character that I fondly like to describe as a Camillo Agrippa fanboy. His fencing treatise, which I have just finished transcribing and translating says "I therefore warn you to take advantage of everything that appears to me to be good about Camillo Agrippa, and I assume that you have it all by heart." He uses Agrippa's work as the foundation for his fencing treatise "Dialogue of Girolamo Lucino of Casalmaggiore on the use of the sword" - describing where his technique differs. For instance, where Agrippa has four guards, Lucino has three.

Rules of Many Knightly Armies

A couple of years ago I decided to start transcribing and translating Italian Renaissance fencing manuals into English. Inspired by my fencing teacher and his other pupils, I undertook this as my COVID project when actual face-to-face fencing was thin on the ground. Federico Ghisliero's 'Regole di molti cavagliereschi essercitii' or 'Rules of many knightly armies' has had much curiosity in the English speaking fencing community due to the detailed pictures throughout one of the three extant volumes (the other two were published with fewer or no pictures - probably due to cost).

It took several years and was published freely online in 2023. I enjoyed it so much that I have now transcribed and transcribed another text, Lucino's 'Dialogo del uso della spada' or ' Dialogue of Girolamo Lucino of Casalmaggiore on the use of the sword' - which is out for peer review prior to publication, likely next year.
